When you look around at the world at the moment it would be easy to think it is a dark place with everything that has been and is going on. Over the last few weeks the Lord has been bringing me to a place where His light shines in the darkness and I reflect His presence of light in me.
I have always liked the verse in Psalm 23 He restoreth my soul. My first take on this verse has been he restoreth our soul from our body back to our spirit and corrects the balance. But verses in the bible have multiple meanings and I know this verse also refers to Him bringing lightness into darkness. In darker times He brings his light in to restore our souls to give us peace.
We have a role to play in these times which is to walk and shine the light that is in us. We should be the beacon; the lighthouse people are looking for as we reflect the Lord. I had a vision a couple of weeks ago in a prayer group of the lighthouse being on top of rock. The rock was under the lighthouse and in this case the rock represents darkness. The Lord with us build/shines His light over the world and the darkness is beneath us and can’t shine anywhere because we have the position of victory and authority.
1 Thessalonians 5:5
You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
In my reading time this morning the two verses I started with were
Matthew 17:1-2
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
I feel like we as children of the Lord have been led to the top of a mountain and with our place in Him we shine like the light. We have this position in Him, but I questioned myself this morning and asked myself if this is what I am reflecting in the world at the moment. Am I a shining light to those around me or have I been seduced by the darkness and what that represents in this time? It would be easy to become of what the world is reflecting out at the moment. The Lord is showing me that I have a responsibility to reflect Him at this time and provide a position of peace, authority, and a strength in Him at the moment. People are looking for this at the moment both unsaved and saved.
Philippians 2:14-15
Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
We have been transformed and are a light. Reflect this.
The Lord has given us a wonderful position of being one with Him. He reminds us again and again in scripture of what He has done for us and how He has overcome darkness. Because He has overcome darkness, we have that overcoming position as well.
I lost my favourite aunt last night as she passed away. She was like a second mum to me growing up and her place was somewhere I used to love to go to in the holidays. I look around at her family and see a lot of them are not saved and this is a hard dark time for them. But I know that she has gone home and is with my mother (who was her best friend) in heaven. I get to walk as light in this time and to reflect the joy of the Lord and have answers for those around who are struggling with the reality of death.
Because of lock down I can’t go to her funeral but I know I will get to see her again and we will be able to be in the Lords light at that time.
2 Peter 1:19
And so, we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
I know where we end up and it is with the Lord in a great place. This reality we can shine to the world.
How many places in the world now are in a bad place as there are not children of the Lord shining, standing up and providing answers.
John 9:4-5
“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
We have this same responsibility as we are one with the Lord.
God is my lamp
Psalms 18:28
For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Colossians 1:13-14
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
What is our view of the world at the moment?
Matthew 6:22-23
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Do I look at the woes the media would betray at the moment or do I see the creation that God made? Is my eye good or is my eye bad? God is reminding me at the moment to stay in the light and reflect Him. There is no place for this darkness in Him.
Let’s lift the veil for those who don’t have the light.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
2 Corinthians 4:6
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
God gave us the position to take
John 12:35-36
Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36 “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
Let us be sons of light now. We have Him in us now so no matter the circumstances around you let yourself today, tomorrow, and next week be a light for those who are unsaved and for those brothers and sisters that need help at the moment.
These are the words I get from the Lord as I finish.
“Why would I give you my son as an example if I didn’t want you to walk like this? The lies are big at the moment but I am bigger. Who will you stand with and what will you reflect? I say reflect Me and I will bless you and more importantly those around you. I am not asking much but asking you to be who I made you to be. The world is looking for answers and I allow this as I wish to see a harvest like never before. What will they see when they look at you son? Will they see me? This is what I ask of you now.”
