I have started this year by contemplating what is it that stops me moving forward or where are the barriers that are holding me back in my walk, holding back the things the Lord has for my life?
As I have prayed into this and sought clarity the Lord has been bringing me to verses and thoughts around righteousness. The ideas, that in the Courtroom unrighteousness in my life is used by the enemy to stop blessings flowing, when I am righteous what can stop progress and that with righteousness there are no barriers to abundance or a direct relationship flowing between the Lord and myself.
Genesis 15:6
And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
I believe in the Lord, I believe in what the Lord has spoken over me and I believe this will be delivered. In this verse, Abraham is accounted righteous because he believed in the Lord and he believed in the words the Lord has spoken over him. He believed in who the Lord is and that the Lord can absolutely deliver the things that have been spoken. Abraham acted on that belief and that action was more proof in his believing in the Lord. He didn’t just say it but he co-laboured in it. Because Abraham believed in God in this way he was counted as a friend of God.
This is the first area the Lord has shown me as being important to righteousness. As I pondered this area the Lord reminded me of a word that He had given me a few years ago. His word was that I was to pray in the morning for the actions and outcomes that were being sought in that day. If then in the day things got off track I was to stand up and command them to get back on track and I was to keep doing this through the day. I feel this ties into belief. If I believe what the Lord has said, and I am praying in line with this then I don’t accept things moving out of sync during the day, so this is why he wanted me to command them back to His plan. I have started doing this again as I do believe in what He has been telling me.
This touches on the second area of righteousness the Lord has been showing me and that is the need to be in line with what He has taught me over the years. Am I in obedience? Am I in sin? Am I blameless?
These things He has shown me before, like I am sure He has shown you, but He was reminding me that if I aren’t in these things then I am not walking in righteousness.
1 Kings 2:3
“And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn;
When I first received the baptism of the Spirit (about ten years ago) I was sleeping one night and I was woken up with the words “you need to get up”. I thought I was hearing things but I got it again “you need to get up”. It then came again “you need to get up and go to your office (home office)”
I realised this was the Lord speaking so I obeyed. He took me to this verse in 1 Kings 2:3 and said I am going to give you six rules that you will now live your life by. So, he gave me six rules to write down (personal to me). As he finished I got the word “I like to work in sevens so I have a seventh area to write down” and that was to love people like the Lord loves people no matter who they are or what the circumstances.
I still try to live by those rules and he has used them to fix things in my life. He wanted me to follow His commandments (the rules above) as He knows by following those rules I am bringing my life in line with what He desires to see, I am moving into righteousness and he can make me prosper wherever I turn and in all ways in life when I am in this place.
Taking the problem areas in my life and fixing them means I head more towards blamelessness and a righteous relationship with the Lord.
What sin is in your life that still needs tackling? No matter how hard these things are to handle they will stop the blessings.
1 Kings 6:12
“Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David.
We are the temple remember and it is getting built all the time. Are we following what the Lord is giving us to follow and obey.
If not we can repent, be cleaned and start again. Go our way and sin no more as Jesus spoke.
1 Kings 9:4-5
“Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, 5 “then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
We are building our temple in righteousness. The kingdom of God is within us (Luke 17:21). The kingdom of God is in our temple and are we keeping that temple in righteousness? A great place to walk because as the righteousness shines from our temple then the kingdom of God within us is undeniable and we walk in the power and signs that we are meant to walk in.
The Lord continues to give me more verses on righteousness area each day as I spend time in His word.
Psalms 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
He wants to bless us and it is easy for Him when we are upright.
Psalms 85:13
Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway.
We prosper in righteousness.
Psalms 92:12
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Just can’t get away from our part in this righteousness walk.
Psalm 18:20-24 KJV
“The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments were before me, And I did not put away his statutes from me. I was also upright before him, And I kept myself from mine iniquity. Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.”
Here’s my challenge to myself this year and you. Can we walk in more righteousness than we have in the past? The Lord’s message is clear in this area.
