2 Samuel 7:25
“Now, O LORD God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.”
Over the recent month the Lord has been showing me the idea of us being part of a house which is part of his city and Kingdom. He has taken me to different parts of scripture to highlight the importance of our house.
He gave Abraham a house which He established forever and He also gave David a house established forever. How often in the word do we see the Lord say, because of His father David, I have protected a situation or maintained something even though an individual or nation has sinned.
In this verse in Samuel He tells us that a house is established forever.
So what we do now establishes our house for the future for the generations to come. What we walk in now can be a result of a house that was established by one of our ancestors who laid the foundation through their walk in the past. Or it may be that you are now called to establish the house for your line.
Our house goes on in our seed through the generations ahead.
What sort of house is He after?
Mathew 21:13
And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
He overturned the tables as this was not the house He was after.
We are His house so let Him be happy with this house. Refer to my earlier word on is your temple ready. Because when it is ready he will establish the house.
Acts 1:20
For it is written in the Book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office.’
After the betrayal, Judas’s line couldn’t be inhabited it was unclean. This is not how we want our house to be.
In fact what the Lord has for the line of Judas to be completed had to be filled by another house.
What is happening when we don’t establish our house? We may have to make a sacrifice in our lifetime to establish the house that the Lord wants for our line. But as He shows here in Judas if we don’t step up to it another house can be required to fill it. I wonder when it comes to judgement if one of the things we are judged on is how our house has performed. A bit like having a school house team achieving the goal.
This is why we are judged at the end of the age because the effect of what our house has completed and the ripple effect is not known until the end. It flows through generations and it all comes into the picture for judgement.
Establish your house
Joshua 24:15
… But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Our house comes from death
Ecclesiastes 7:2
Better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will take it to heart.
…
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
The establishment of our house will require surrender and death and that is why we go to the house of mourning. He wants death to the things that are not Him. Mourn them but get rid of them.
And this does not mean you don’t celebrate with your family or enjoy the journey.
In death is life and the establishment of the house for generations.
He also tells us this in
2 Corinthians 5:1
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,
3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.
4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.
…..
6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.
We move from the body, the things that are earthly to the things of Him. In this we establish a house for eternity.
Establishing a house does not come without a cost and it does not come while we are about us and the things of this world.
The house must be united
Matthew 12:25
But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
26 “If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
This is the new man replacing the old man. The house has to be one with the Lord and united with Him and our brothers.
Through the generations it is only the Lord at the centre that can ensure the house stands as this is the one truth that can be stood on. “As for me and my house we will stand in the Lord.”
What else can we stand on? He has to be the foundation and cornerstone of the house. The Lord is everything for the house to stand.
Ephesians 2:19
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,
21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit
We each are building our own house with Jesus as the cornerstone and our houses become a city on the hill for His Kingdom.
It strikes me this morning that our house is like the jars of the widow with the oil. The oil stopped when she couldn’t find any more jars. Don’t let me or my house ever run out of jars Lord. Let us be forever being filled.
Whatever you are doing be receptive to more. Oil represents the Spirit and I pray let my house forever be ready to receive more of the Spirit.
I have written before about a word the Lord had for me a few years ago now. It was in the form of a story which is sometimes how He shares things. Now I thought this was about a specific event I was in at the time and the story was for that but He also has shown me that the story is for multiple events and today it applies to the house that I am building for the generations ahead. These are His words
“So this is the story, it’s a child’s story
It’s the story of the three little pigs.
Now the first little pig he made the skeleton and the wolf came along and he blew the house down but that little pig was smart and he grabbed the skeleton and he ran to the next little pigs house. Now the next little pig he put the flesh on and then the wolf came and he blew that pigs house down so the second pig was smart too so he grabbed the flesh and he grabbed the first pigs skeleton and then they ran to the third little pigs house. Now the third little pigs house was the finish and this is where he put the skin on and he put the steps in the form of blocks and then the wolf came along and he could not get in because the house was finished.
Now you have done the first step and you have done an excellent job now the wolf has come to blow at you and to make you all discouraged but don’t be discouraged because you are just moving to the next house. Now it is a lot of work and this is a huge assignment I have given you and you are under stress because your house keeps getting blown down with this provision. So you have to keep running to the next house but you are a smart little pig and you now have the skeleton. Now you may feel like you are running and you may feel like you are running for your life but you still have that skeleton and now we put the flesh on and then you will run again until we get to the end and when we are at the end I will put the bricks around you and that wolf will no longer be able to get you. But in the journey it is frightening and you are running so do not underestimate this because I know it is not easy. …”
Let the bricks be established on my house so it is established forever.
I started with 2 Samuel chapter 7 and I will finish in the same chapter
29 “Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord GOD, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.
