HEARING GOD’S VOICE

 

Transformed mind Romans 12:2

Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

 

The Lord was talking to me really clearly this morning (notes from a year ago):

I got this revelation that when God was walking with Adam he was walking in the mind.

I am now hearing the Lord more and more like Adam heard him and we can all have that.

He walked in the natural with Adam as well at times.

When the fall occurred the mind connection was cut with Adam and he needed redeeming which we get today through Jesus.

As we get close to the Lord he opens up this mind connection like Adam had pre fall and the voice of the Lord is clear.

We won’t hear clearly like Adam until we have walked back through those flaming swords of fire that the cherubim are holding at the gates of the garden.  He is the tree of life.

Genesis 3:24

So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

As the dross gets burned away of us we hear Him more and more.  Burn away Lord!

I believe the Lord really wants us all to hear His voice as it is a natural state to be in.  He gave us some words a while ago “I need all My children to hear My voice clearly because in times ahead they will need to obey My voice. When I tell my children to turn left they will need to turn and when I tell my children to turn right they will need to turn.”

So hearing Him is something for today.  There are a number of Old Testament examples that highlight the importance of hearing His voice and they are just as relevant today as then.

Deuteronomy 28

14 “So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

2 Kings 22 v2

…and he walked in all the ways of his father David he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left hand.

He wants to protect us and He wants to communicate with us.  Unless we hear Him how will we know the right way to turn?

 

Another morning the Lord showed me this message.  We know the story of Esau and Jacob.

 Genesis 27:41

So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

42 And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you.

So these words were said by “Esau in his heart” yet Rebekah heard them. How did she hear them? She heard them direct from the Lord.  The Lord wants to talk to us and in this case He talked to Rebekah to protect Jacob.

 

Jesus walked this way hearing Gods voice all the time.

 John 12:49

“For I have not spoken on My own (authority); but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.”

John 5:19

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do: for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

 

Jesus only did what His Father did.  Why because He was walking so close to the Lord.

We are told to be like Christ so that means we should be looking to hear the Fathers voice like Jesus did.  It is expected of us.

 

How can we hear His voice?

For me it started in an interesting way.

I received the baptism of the Spirit first.  I had a friend who had received this baptism a few weeks before me and she had started to hear the Lord’s voice.  That was enough for me if this was available from the Lord then I wanted it to.

So I started to listen.  I prayed in tongues for a long time as I found this got me to a clean peaceful place.  Then I would listen and the Lord would speak to me.  I started to write what He was saying and as I did this the flow just happened.

As I prophesied over people His word would flow through me.

As we got together with Spirit filled people I found His word would be so much clearer and stronger.  I find this today as the unity of the body just brings a new level of intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

For me I really hear His voice talking to me when I am in the word.  Every morning I spend time in the word with Him before I do anything else and when I do this He opens up.  He directs me to the scripture to read and He speaks through His word.  If I meditate on a verse He will share his voice with me and open up the explanation. He is always wanting to teach me something.

 

For other people they will get this direct from His voice or when in prayer.  Each of us is different.

 

Shortly after I received the baptism of the Spirit I was awoken at two o’clock in the morning and the Lord told me to get up.  I said no way I am just hearing this strange voice.  But no His voice kept telling me to get up so I eventually did.  He told me to go to the office and get my bible which I did.  He took me to Deuteronomy and showed me that I was to obey His commandments.  He then gave me seven commandments that I was to obey all my life. He made me write them down. One of these was to spend an hour a day in His word no matter what.  Ever since that morning three years ago I have done this without fail.  He uses this time to communicate with me and teach me.

He used His voice to tell me the things I needed to obey in my walk ahead because He loved me and wanted to protect me.

This is the God we have and He wants to do this for every one of us.  This is not a gift but this is part of the core package available to us.  Use it.

 

One word of warning is that it can take time to discern that you are hearing the Lord’s voice.  There is the opportunity to hear voices that aren’t the Lords so it is important to stay close to Him and to think about what you are hearing.  Is what you are hearing consistent with what the God of the bible would say and do?

 

We are given in

1 John 4:2

“By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.”

So when I started hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit I asked for this verse in 1 John to be quoted by the voice I was hearing and I was blessed in this as I learnt very quickly that I was hearing the voice of the Lord.

We are expected to test.

 

One thing I found after a while is that I realised I had been hearing the Lords voice all my life and I hadn’t recognised what it was.  This was exciting as the Lord is with us and He wants a relationship.

 

I encourage you seek the Lord’s voice.  Be open to a relationship with him that includes a two way conversation not a one way prayer coming from you all the time.  We should pray without doubt.

Seek the closer relationship with Him as He desires this closeness and this communication.

 

Isaiah 52:6

Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks: ‘Behold, it is I.’ “
