Bottom line is if you are not in the word you won’t be accomplishing all that you should be accomplishing for His kingdom
Hebrews 4:12
The word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
This is one of my memory verses which states out clearly the power of the word.
I was saved as an adult seventeen years ago and it occurred when I heard the word read out from the bible for the first time as an adult. It struck me right then as being real and not something that belonged as part of stories I had heard. I then had the strength of having the word taught to me week on week straight from the bible for ten years in a row. I complemented this by reading the bible in my own time eight years in a row from start to finish.
I was given the foundation of the word in multiple ways and it was strong but it wasn’t living and powerful. I don’t believe it can become living and powerful until you have had the baptism of the spirit and the spirit brings life to the word. I didn’t get the baptism of the spirit until twelve years after I was saved.
It was then with the spirit when I started reading the word that it really came to life. The Lord took me to different scripture each morning (and still does) to give me a deeper understanding. I get up every morning and without fail the first thing I do is spend time with Him. In this time He will use scripture to open me up. He has used the word to take me through the sanctification process to pierce the division of my soul and spirit and my joints and marrow because He knew what had to be addressed in my heart. It has often been a painful process and it has taken years because He has done it bit by bit. Through this I see Job’s word explain what He has done with the word in me.
Job 32:8
But there is a spirit in a man and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding
He is in us he gives us knowledge and wisdom. The spirit has brought the life to me to give me understanding.
What was interesting for me is after receiving the baptism of the spirit He took me through a number of churches to show me different things. I went to a church which had such a powerful movement of the spirit going but not a depth of the word so they were experiencing Him but they weren’t taking ground in Him. I had been in a church where the word was so strong but there was next to no spirit. They knew Him in word but they weren’t walking in the ground they should be taking. What I believe the Lord was showing me is that you have to have both the word and the spirit. You have to have a solid foundation of the word and you have to be moving in the spirit then you will move into His will and take the ground. If you are lacking one side of this then I encourage you to ask the Lord for the other side.
Jeremiah 20:9
…. But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
That desire to speak to share is from Him a fire within.
One thing I did was realise I knew His words but I could never reference His verses or quote the full verses so a couple of years I set out to fix this. I picked fifty of the key verses for me that I felt He had been teaching me through and I memorised them.
The beauty of this was that He rewarded me for this and as I memorised these verses and His word it was like the spirit just brought them to life. He would take me to different parts of the word in the morning to emphasize a verse and related verses to what I had memorised and the depth of understanding in that verse just grew it became living and powerful and he used it to highlight so much in me that the verse could address. He would then bring these verses to mind when I was in different situations and He wanted me to use these as a weapon. I have no doubt that His word is that two edged sword and is a weapon in the spirit. When His word has penetrated us and we speak it out it gives something for the angelic host to use in the spirit as it comes from us as sons of God.
He wants us to know His word
Deuteronomy 30:14
But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart that you may do it.
Titus 1:3
God who cannot lie, promised before time began, but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our saviour;
God’s word has many purposes in our life
Luke 4:32
And they were astonished at His teaching for His word was with authority.
Parable of the sower
Luke 8:5 -18
This parable is about the word. Let it fall on good ground so that it has a crop of a hundredfold.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Are you sowing the word into your life?
Luke 4:36
.”..what a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”
Luke 9:1
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
The Lord says it is His word and when we take the word and move in power then it is done in the spirit and the earth.
Acts 12:24
But the word of God grew and multiplied.
You can’t hold it back when you let it grow in you, when you spend time it when you let it pierce you.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
It works in us. Ties in with Hebrews 4:12 and is living and powerful
Let the word be in us. Let us grow in the word.
2 Timothy 2:9
for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.
I love this book. His word will not be held back.
He knows you are His and His word is not chained.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Ties in with Hebrews 4 v 12. We are to use scripture to bring us in line with His will.
The word is powerful and is a key part of the sanctification process.
John 8:31
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
I want to be free.
So the word is powerful and living. You need to be in His word. Although you can be having a 100 things around you going on and you can be doing His work he still wants you in His word.
It is foundational and you won’t accomplish all you were put here to do if you don’t have his word continuously.
James 2:22
Do you not see that faith was working together with His works and through works faith was made perfect.
Step with faith into the word and see what He does.
A very good survey. I am trying to u.stand the work of the Holy
spirit in our lives. We pray to Jesus but the H.Spirit speaks to us and more? Look forward to hearing more.
