THE LORD’S PRAYER (part one)

 

Matthew 6:9-13

 

In this manner therefore pray

 

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name

Your kingdom come. Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

 

As this is the prayer that the Lord gave us as the model prayer it is foundational to our understanding and preparation.

As I consider a number of the precepts the Lord has been giving me I see in this prayer a capturing of them.

We will work through line by line.

 

Our Father

Who is He, He is our father.

This is how we are to start our prayers.

 

What can we expect from our Father

 

Love & Awe

 We are to walk knowing our father loves us

Deuteronomy 5:9

This verse follows the Ten Commandments

Oh that they had such a heart that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments that it might be well with them and their children forever!

 

Why does He say this because He loves and He knows if we sin then we let the accuser have a legal opening. He wants us to fear Him and His commandments to protect us in love so we don’t expose ourselves to the accuser.

This is what a father does for his children.

 

Blessings

 Ephesians 1:3                        

 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every

spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

For us and our children

Deuteronomy 7:13

…He will also bless the fruit of your womb.

 

Correction & Protection

 2 Samuel 7:14

 I shall be his father and he shall be My son.  If he commits iniquity I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him.

So let us walk and pray knowing we have a father who made us, who named us, who called us.

He is our Father and we can take a huge strength from this. We can rest in this.

 

In Heaven

Where is our father situated?  He is in heaven and He is ruling over all principalities and powers.  He looks down on the earth and he laughs at the accuser’s actions.  In heaven

 

In heaven He is with us no matter the season or time

2 Chronicles 15:2

…The Lord is with you while you are with Him, if you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake him he will forsake you.

In heaven He is outside time so time is not an issue for him.

Hezekiah had the clock taken back 10 degrees

Galatians 4:10-11

You observe days and months and seasons and years. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored in vain.

He was telling me and making it sink in that the seasons and time don’t matter as He is outside it, and He will perform it, I need to stop trying to run it to my timelines

2 Peter 3:8

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

In Heaven He has been before us.

He knows what is going on

 

Acts 4:28

 To do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.

 

Romans 8 v28

Jerimiah 1 v12

Ezekial 12 v25

Ecclesiasties 6 v10

 

So He is our Father and He is in heaven and we can rest in the certainty He is in control and He sees all and what He says will be done..

 

 

Hallowed be Thy name

 What is his name “I AM”

 

He wants you to know who He is

 Ezekial 7:27

…Then they shall know I am Lord!

Ezekial 11:10

…Then you shall know that I am The Lord.

Ezekial 12:20

Then the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall become desolate; and you shall know that I am The Lord.

Ezekial  Chapters 19-21

They shall know I Am the Lord

 

All through three chapters he makes known He is The Lord, He is in control.

 

Jeremiah 9:24

 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am The Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgement and righteousness in the earth,

For in these I delight says The Lord.

 

Let him delight in us.

 

In His name there is a power.  Let us be in awe of His name and who He is.

 

These first three lines of this model prayer give us such foundational material for our relationship with the Lord.  When we start to understand the Lord in depth we build the foundation for His power to be housed by us.
